Invokana Concerning Lawsuits

The potentially dangerous side effects of SGLT2 Inhibitors have caused many people to file lawsuits. These medications are designed to treat type 2 diabetes. However, they can cause urinary tract infections and diabetic ketoacidosis. Ketoacidosis is when the body produces an abnormally high amount of ketones.

The Food And Drug Administration issued warnings about Invokamet and Invokana back in 2015. These drugs are classified as SGLT2 Inhibitors. There have been over 20 cases reported of patients needing hospitalization because they suffered ketoacidosis while taking these drugs.

The FDA told drug makers back in December 2015 to include warnings on the label. People who developed ketoacidosis while taking this drug are filing lawsuits.

What Are Some Of The Dangers Of Using Invokana?

Invokana causes the kidneys to excrete excess glucose through the kidneys. It is recommended for patients who are unable to control their diabetes with diet and exercise. It is not recommended for patients who suffer from type 2 diabetes. It is also not recommended for people who suffer from diabetic ketoacidosis.

Diabetic ketoacidosis happens when the body is not able to produce enough insulin to control blood glucose levels. As a result of this, the body starts burning fat, which produces acidic ketone bodies. The production of ketones is what causes ketoacidosis.

Abdominal pain, dehydration, vomiting, fatigue and confusion are symptoms of ketoacidosis. This condition can result in death if it is left untreated. No one has died while taking Invokana or Invokamet. However, using these drugs can still be very dangerous.

Safety Group Warns Of Risks Associated With Using Invokana

The Institute For Safe Medication Practices has also expressed concerns about Invokana. There were 450 adverse events reported during the first year after this drug hit the market. Abnormal weight loss, kidney failure, kidney stones, urinary tract infections and fluid imbalances are some of the reported side effects.

Should I File A Lawsuit?

If you have suffered an adverse reaction while taking Invokana, then you may be able eligible for compensation. People have stated that the drug makers did not warn them about the risks, were negligent and misrepresented the benefits and risks of the drug. A time limit applies, so you should seek professional advice as soon as possible.
